Jesus ( Suso) and Javier Carbajales were born on 20th February, 1930 in a little town of Asturias called Boal, situated on the north of Spain. During the Spanish civil war, they emigrated to Uruguay with their family. The first years they lived in a neighborhood of Montevideo (capital city of Uruguay) called `Parque de los Aliados’.Some years later they started living on a farm in the outskirts of Montevideo where they had close contact with animals, vineyards and all aspects of nature in general.
Suso
is a Mathematics teacher and Javier teaches Drawing and Geography. They travel to
Spain to visit their hometown. Then, they go to France and England where they do
some studies and they get interested in the great artists of painting and sculpture.
They come back to Uruguay and start designing vases together with well-known architects
from the area, as well as manufacturing kilns for ceramics. Due to the economical
crisis the country suffered at that time, they had to stop producing the kilns and
began to work on ceramics and sell the products in gift shops.

In 1966 Javier enters the world of painting and exhibits his works in several art galleries obtaining important prizes. Today his paintings can be found in U.S.A, Canada, France, Spain, Germany and elsewhere. Some time later, Suso also gets involved in the world of painting. In 1963 Suso gets married to Elena Coitiño (Uruguayan, architect assistant, one son) and in 1974 Javier marries Susana Braeckman. (Argentinian, resident in Uruguay, degree from `Bellas Artes´ College in ceramics sculpting and modelling, 3 sons).

Together with Susana Braeckman, working on the decoration of vases and plates, the idea of creating a line of little animals came up. This line would highlight a characteristic of each animal that would be distinctive in order to create an artistic line. The first 25 samples are offered in the different art galleries in Uruguay and these little works of art are warmly praised.
They
participate in different exhibitions in Brasil and their success stimulates them
to increase the line. In 1970 they already have a prestigious line in addition
to a medieval chess set which they designed, and is introduced in a large chest
of the same medieval style. The first exports of this product went to France,
U.S.A, Canada and Italy. Its demand increases day by day and they keep on
trading it locally as well as internationally.
Suso and Javier continued creating new models, teaching carving and painting techniques to future artists of Artesania Rinconada. At that time they already had three lines ( the classic one, the big one introducing some gold and silver in some of the items, which made them outstanding, and the line of animals with magnets). Besides this, they continued making plates, decorated vases and pictures painted with different techniques.
